Nineteenth Century Spain is a concise survey on one of the most overlooked periods of Spanish history, from the Peninsular War to the Spanish-American War. It’s a pity to see how short it is, but it’s a good and fresh introduction to the fall of the Spanish Empire, political instability, civil wars, and social changes of 19th century Spain. Mark Lawrence also talks about the frustrated modernization of Spain, a country that appeared backward in relation to other European powers.
